Here’s a sign in Hungarian. It appears you can’t park in this area. Why not??
Take your best guess under the picture, then see below for the answer!
Answer: “Fire lane”
The key to understanding this sign is the word tűzoltó.
Technically tűzoltó means “firefighter,” but here it refers to the fire brigade in general, or more specifically to the firetruck itself!
Felvonulás means “procession,” but when the derivative form felvonulási is connected to the word terület (area), then felvonulási terület refers to a “place where there is processional-type movement.”
So tűzoltó felvonulási terület literally means “a place where firetrucks proceed down,” but it best translates into English as “fire lane.”
tűzoltó = firefighter, fire brigade
felvonulás = procession
terület = area, place
Tűzoltó felvonulási terület = “Fire lane”

Very nice, you could put more things like this. Like pharmacy, hairdresser, shops (tabbaco especially, since there is plenty in Budapest), tailor, etc. Parking places also….By the way, keep the good work…Excellent site…Best regards
