Thank you for this podcast. I live in sweden but My grandfather is originelly from hungary. This autumn I plan to move to Budapest so this podcast is truly a help for me. I plan to study diplomacy. I also have a question for the next podcast. Is There any non-sex definition Word in hungarian. In sweden for exemple we have “hen” instead of “han” and “hon which means he/she. We uses It when the sex has no importance for exemple when we refer to someone unknown. So My question is: are There any hungarian version?

Thank you for listening, Julia! We’re glad you’re enjoying the podcast. To answer your question, there is no gender in Hungarian, so actually they use the same word for “he” and “she”: ő. In fact, Hungarians sometimes accidentally mix up “he” and “she” when they speak English.
There’s no specific word for a gender-neutral “it”. Hungarian instead uses “ez/az” or “this/that” for whatever objects they refer to. I hope that answers your question. If not, please let me know!
